ASK A LIBRARIAN!

Need help doing research for your paper or speech?  There are several ways to contact the Reference Librarians on the Moorpark College Library staff.

You can, of course, find them at the Reference Desk when the Library is open.  Currently, the hours are 8am - 8pm Monday - Thursday and 8am - noon on Friday.

You can also call the Reference Desk during those hours.  The number is 805-378-1472.

Now...you can also email the Reference Desk 24/7 at mcreference@vcccd.edu.  Tell us what class your research is for, any deadlines that you have, and be as specific as possible in telling us what you're looking for.  Every attempt will be made to get back to you within 24 hours--taking the open hours into account.  If your email is sent on Thursday evening, for example, you may not get an answer until Monday.

The Reference Librarians are some of the most helpful people on campus.  Please take advantage of this service.

WELCOME DANIELLE KAPRELIAN!

Moorpark College and the staff of Library Learning Resources welcomes new Associate Librarian Danielle Kaprelian.

Danielle has a B.A. in English from UC Irvine, and a Master's in Library and Information Science from CSU San Jose.  Over the last six years, she has been working in a variety of libraries: public, children's, medical, and academic.  At Moorpark, you'll see her working at the Reference Desk and teaching library instruction sessions.

Besides being a librarian, she loves the outdoors and enjoys wilderness backpacking.

POETRY READ ON 10/17

The next Poetry Read and Open Mic will be held on the 3rd floor of Library Learning Resources (LLR) on Wednesday, October 17th at 5:30pm.

The Faculty Reader is Hart Shultz, and the Guest Poet is Kate Gale--author of
"The Crucifix is Down" and "Mating Season" among other books.

"The afternoon sun was a rain of bees
my hair full of wings.
It was the afternoon you left me.
We were in the orchard.
You began to speak Claudius-slow..."

BANNED BOOKS DISPLAY

Did you know that The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language has faced censorship because it contains 39 objectionable words? (LA Times, 9/27/11)

See the Banned Books Week display in LLR and you may be surprised at some of the titles. The display is located on the west side of the display case just inside the library doors.  A few books are also displayed on the tops of the low shelves behind the Reference Desk.

The Hispanic Heritage Month display continues on the east side of the display case.
