Extended Library Hours During Finals

The Library is extending its hours during finals. We will open at 7:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 am and close at 8:30 p.m. Last day of school is Wednesday, Dec. 17. The Library will be open on that day from 7:30 a.m. till 8:30 p.m.

The Library will be closed from Dec. 18, 2008 till January 11, 2009.

Featured guest: Jennifer Kwon Dobbs
Jennifer Kwon Dobbs has published poems in 5 AM, Cimarron Review, Crazyhorse, Cream City Review, Poetry NZ, Tulane Review, Echoes Upon Eches (Temple UP 2003), and Contemporary Voices from the Eastern World: An Anthology of Poems (W.W. Norton 2007). Her poetry has appeared on radio and in film, and her song-cycle collaborations with classical music composers have debuted in New York and Los Angeles . She currently teaches honors writing courses at the University of Southern California , where she is a doctoral candidate in the Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing Program. She has won the White Pine Press Poetry Prize for her first book Paper Pavilions .

Insect Display in the Library

A colorful and assorted array of tiny to large, flying and crawling, and all color insects are showcased in the Library Display Case and available to view until May 30. These insects on display have been collected over several decades from around the world by our adjunct Chemistry Faculty, Dr. Vahak Harutunian and his friend David Jeffress.

Poetry Read, Feb. 14, 4:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. - Featured Poet: Alisha Westerman

Starting on February 14th, a Moorpark poet will do a mini-feature at each of the Reads. Adam Poisal is the first Moorpark poet. He's now the host of Vox, a poetry venue in Ventura. Alisha Westerman, the guest poet, is a young Caribbean writer, photographer and musician who writes and performs with her Long Beach band, Mellow Mood.

Since the Poetry Read is on Valentine's Day, students are invited to read a Valentine's Day poem (not necessarily theirs). This can also be an anti-Valentine's Day poem! Come along and sign up for open mic.

Speeches and Oral Presentations:
Has presented on the art of poetry, on work/life balance, women’s issues, mental health issues and motivational speeches.

Has organized and created public service and artistic events. Has started and organized poetry readings, self-improvement workshops, festivals and celebratory events.
