MULTICULTURAL DAY, TUESDAY APRIL 11TH

Every year, in conjunction with Moorpark College's Multicultural Day, students may submit designs that could appear on promotional materials such as posters, flyers, sweatshirts, and t-shirts.  Entries submitted this year are on display in the case right inside the Library Learning Resources (LLR) doors.

The first place winner was Alon Weinberg.  (He won third place as well!)  Winner of second place was Justine Rickey.  Congratulations to both.

Multicultural Day is this coming Tuesday, April 11th.  Its them is "Cross Cultural Connections: Then and Now."  Come to campus on that day and you'll find everything from a panel discussion on the superhero in contemporary culture to a Bollywood dance performance.  There are food and merchandise booths.  You may even learn how to throw a boomerang!

SCHOLARSHIP DISPLAY IN THE LIBRARY

Did you know that there are over 30 scholarships available to Moorpark College students?  They range from $250 to $2500 and applications can be picked up in the Scholarship Office, Fountain Hall 210C.  You can also apply online at:

https://moorparkcollege.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com/CMXAdmin/Cmx_Content.aspx?cpId=922

But before you apply, check out the range of scholarships on the east side of the display case just inside Library Learning Resources (LLR).  You'll find a flyer displayed for each scholarship, and some of them give detailed information on the criteria needed to apply.  Many are available to students transferring to a 4-year college or university in Fall 2017, as well as to continuing students at MC.

Do you need to write an essay?  What GPA is required?  What is your major?  What school are you transferring to?  Check out the flyers, and then head to the Scholarship Office or online for more detailed information and applications.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH DISPLAY

Please visit the west side of the Library's display case (right inside the front doors) to view a display of books and other material celebrating African-American History Month--including an interesting poster showing African-American inventions such as the elevator, the traffic light, and ice cream.

African-American History Month was originally founded as Negro History Week in 1926.  The second week of February was chosen as it included the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.  February was first designated as African-American History Month in 1976.  (It's called Black History Month in Canada and the UK.)

This is only a small subset of the Library's resources related to the history of various ethnic groups in the United States and around the world.  Check the Library's catalog or our many electronic databases.  If you need assistance, please talk to a Reference Librarian.

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY DISPLAY

A display of some of the Library's books by and about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as well as a film or two, are displayed in Library and Learning Resources in honor of Martin Luther King Day.  You'll find them on the west side of the display case just inside the building's front doors.  You'll also see three quotes from Dr. King.  This blogger's favorite: "We may have all come in different ships, but we're in the same boat now."
