AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH DISPLAY

Please visit the west side of the Library's display case (right inside the front doors) to view a display of books and other material celebrating African-American History Month--including an interesting poster showing African-American inventions such as the elevator, the traffic light, and ice cream.

African-American History Month was originally founded as Negro History Week in 1926.  The second week of February was chosen as it included the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.  February was first designated as African-American History Month in 1976.  (It's called Black History Month in Canada and the UK.)

This is only a small subset of the Library's resources related to the history of various ethnic groups in the United States and around the world.  Check the Library's catalog or our many electronic databases.  If you need assistance, please talk to a Reference Librarian.
