Fall 2016 Semester Library Hours
Library Learning Resources (LLR) will be open the following hours from Wednesday, August 17th to Friday, December 16th:
Monday through Thursday, 8am - 8pm
Friday, 8am - 12pm
LLR is closed Saturday and Sunday, as well as on college holidays. This semester, the holidays are September 5th, November 11th, November 24th, and November 25th.

SUMMER LIBRARY DISPLAYS
Two displays are featured in the Library Learning Resources display case, located just inside the front doors.
On the west side: Two illustrated essays by students in Sandra Hunter's Spring 2016 English M01A class are displayed along with a collection of books on gangs from the Library's collection. One essay is entitled "Why Kids Join Gangs" and is by Dana Trick. The other essay is by Juliet Delgado and is entitled "Tough as Painted Nails: The Lives and Troubles of Female Gang Members." If you would like to read either of these essays, please see a Reference Librarian.
On the east side: Two posters featuring poems by Ventura poet Phil Taggart are displayed, along with a collection of books by poets that have read their works at the occasional Moorpark College Poetry Read.

Library Learning Resources will be closed Thursday, May 19th and Friday, May 20th.
Beginning Monday, May 23rd, and continuing through Wednesday, August 10th, Library Learning Resources hours are:

Reference Librarians will not be available during all open hours this summer. Their schedule is:

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION IN THE LIBRARY
Did you know that there are over 40 scholarships available to Moorpark College students? They range from $250 to $2500 and applications can be picked up in the Scholarship Office, Fountain Hall 210C. You can also apply online at:

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK DISPLAY
International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH DISPLAY
November is Native American Heritage Month, celebrating the contributions, achievements, sacrifices, and the cultural and historical legacy of the original inhabitants of the United States.
Check out the west side of the display case just inside the doors of Library Learning Resources. You'll find an exhibit of some of the books and DVD's held by the Library in subject areas related to Native Americans. There are also maps showing California tribal groups and languages.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH DISPLAY
Every year during the period September 15th - October 15th, the country celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month honoring the culture, heritage, and history of Spain, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
The four-week period includes the independence anniversaries of Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. Columbus Day, or Dia de la Raza, also falls within this period.
The west side of the display case (just inside the front doors of LLR) features books from the Library's collection that cover many aspects of Hispanic culture.
(The east side of the display case continues a display on Student Services at Moorpark College.)

This year's Constitution Day, September 17th, marks the 228th anniversary of the United States Constitution. The Library will have a Constitution Day display on the second floor of Library Learning Resources. Material from the Library's collection that relates to the Constitution and the nation's founding fathers will be on display.

MULTICULTURAL DAY DESIGNS ON DISPLAY
Every year, in conjunction with Multicultural Day, students may submit entries for the Multicultural Day design that will be featured on promotional materials such as posters, flyers, sweatshirts, and T-shirts. ML King & SB Anthony
January 15th is the anniversary of the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr (although the national holiday is celebrated on January 19th this year.) Selected library materials covering his life and works are displayed on the west side of the display case just inside the entrance of Library Learning Resources.
Sharing the space is a display related to Susan B. Anthony--the American social reformer who played a pivotal role in the women's suffrage movement. The anniversary of her birthday is February 15th.
On display are books, videos, and DVDs. In the case of Dr. King, a 15-CD collection of his most important speeches and sermons is also on display.
Any material on display can be checked out...just ask for assistance at the Reference desk.
